The Guide to Prevent Crown Hair Loss

Crown hair loss inevitably appears as you get older. Luckily, it is considered only the initial stage of balding so combating it is never so hard if you take action immediately. Here are some steps you should take as soon as you notice the first signs of hair receding at the crown to prevent further hair loss.

1. Change your grooming routine

The first thing you should do when you notice the first fibers of hair falling down is removing heavy hair care and styling products from your grooming routine. Waxes, creams, gel shampoos and styling gels weigh down your hair making it susceptible to breakage. The more you continue using heavy products, the more hair you are expected to lose, which will lead you closer to getting completely baldness.

This is why get rid of waxes and styling gels as soon as possible to save your hair and encourage new hair growth. If those heavy products are necessary, you can replace them with their lighter versions, including sprays and powders.

2. Wash it as often as possible

You may have heard many people advising to avoid washing the hair often. However, this suggestion refers only to thick hair. If you have thinning hair, you need to wash it as often as possible. You have to do it because natural oils can accumulate on your hair and scalp in excess, weighing down the hair making it easy to break and blocking follicles impeding them from growing new hair. So washing your hair daily or every two days will keep the number of oils within decent limits, removing the burden from the sensitive hair fibers around the crown.

3. Cover it with a new hairstyle

Well, while this method helps to deal with thinning crown artificially and temporarily, it is also a way to reduce the thinning appearance and make your problem less visible. Once you notice a bald spot at the crown, you can ask your hairstylist to choose for you a haircut that would cover your trouble area. Comb over and slick back are perfect options for receding crown, as long as your scalp holds sufficient hair to create these hairstyles.

4. Stick to a nutrient-rich diet

Another way you can deal with crown balding is to start a diet rich in nutrients, specifically: iron, zinc, vitamins and fatty acids. Omega 3 acid and vitamins have a role in nourishing the scalp and follicles encouraging them to promote more hair growth. When it comes to iron and zinc, they strengthen the follicles allowing them to provide better support to sensitive hair fibers at the crown, reversing their fall.

Moreover, iron is in charge of producing red cells that transport nutrient-rich oxygen to body parts. It's easy to figure out that the more red cells you have in your blood, the more nutrients it can transport to follicles, scalp and hair making them healthier and stronger.

5. Consider hair transplantation

Though more expensive, this procedure helps you restore your crown hair forever, forgetting about wigs and hair growth drugs. There are two ways of performing hair transplantation. Follicular Unit Extraction exports individual fibers from a healthy donor area on the scalp to a balding area. This is a long-lasting and tedious procedure, as the surgeon removes fibers one by one. However, FUE is safer and leaves fewer scars, which makes it more expensive than FUT.

Follicular Unit Transplant is the transfer of a strip of healthy hair from a donor area to a baldness affected area. It is faster because the surgeon harvests more fibers at once, but it leaves a big scar that heals harder and is likable to end up in a permanent mark that will be visible unless you go with a long haircut. Both procedures are pricey comparing to other ways of combating crown hair loss, but you will rest assured that your hair will get restored forever.

Altogether, crown thinning is a mild condition that can be treated if addressed immediately. Things you can do to combat it include: giving up on heavy hair care products, washing your hair often, covering the bald area with a smart haircut, following a diet packed with nutrients and performing hair restoration surgery.
