The Guide to Avoid Hair Pieces Fall and Cause Embarrassment

A hair piece fall shouldn't take place with a well-fitting wig. Still, sometimes the wig may not fit your head well, which makes it slip or even fall off in case of strong wind or intense activity. Luckily, there are some reliable methods that help secure an unstable wig. Read on to know which are they and how to use them.

1. Tapes

Wig tape provides a strong bond helping securing a poorly fitting wig. It is attached inside the wig all along the base's edge. You must be highly precise when applying the colored tape to not allow it to be visible. Tape is safer than glue, as it doesn't contain harsh chemicals and doesn't irritate the skin, which makes it a go-to option for people recovering from skin cancer treatment whose scalp is sensitive.

Tapes are also better than adjustable pull straps that are found on the underside of some wigs for securing it. While managing a perfect bond, the straps distort the hairstyle, making it look unnatural and impeding movement. On the other hand, tapes don't use pressure to tighten or loosen the wig. They just rely on a strong bond provided by their sticky surface. Thus, the hair is not constrained in movement.

2. Wig cap

A wig cap is another way to secure a poorly-fitting wig. If your wig is just too loose, you can apply a cap that makes your head virtually larger allowing for the wig to get tightly secured. The cap can also alleviate the lumps created by your natural hair, helping the wig rest better on the scalp. Aside from preventing hairpiece fall, a wig cap builds a barrier between the wig and your natural hair, protecting your hair from breaking under too strong friction with the hair system base.

3. Wig grip

A wig grip is a band made to fit the size of a human head. It embraces the entire head while being fastened with a velcro grip in the back. The band makes up for a barrier for the wig's hairline impeding it from sliding back. Also, it has two velvet sides that adhere to the wig and scalp, improving the grip and friction. The charm of a wig grip is that it not only prevents wig fall but also makes wig-wearing more comfortable and distributes the weight of the hairpiece evenly.

Broadly speaking, a wig grip is a mini version of a wig cap, which has some advantages. First of all, a wig grip is lighter than a wig cap, which helps carry it easier and avoid discomfort and pressure after weeks of permanent wear. Also, a cap can make things feel hot since being a piece of thick fabric that covers the entire head, whereas the grip is just a band with an approximate width of 30mm that covers just a line across the head. This makes it less hot, allowing you to use it on sunny days, without being afraid of getting your scalp sweating too much.

4. Clips

Clips are also an efficient tool in preventing hairpiece fall and slip. If you hardly imagine what clips are, well, these are small forks sewn into the wig structure that stab into the existing hair on the wearer's scalp, helping the wig stay better in place. Unlike the above-mentioned options, clips work only with scalps that have hair left on them. Thus, people suffering from complete baldness or severe hair loss cannot resort to this method of securing the wig. The more and the stronger hair you have, the better grip clips can provide. Clips are easy to use, taking just some minutes to attach them on the wig and remove, without messy residues and smells.

All in all, if you look for a way to secure the falling wig you have some options to choose from. Tapes provide a strong bond avoiding pressure and additional weight. Wig caps make loose wigs secure on the scalp tightly while creating a barrier between the user's natural hair and wig. Wig grips are a perfect option for those living in hot areas, while clips are a go-to wig attachment for people who still have hair left on their scalp.
