Understanding the Male Pattern Hair Loss Stages

Male pattern baldness is the most common type of hair loss that 60% of men in the world are suffering from after the age of 30. For some people, hair loss can start as early as puberty.

Male pattern hair loss is an inherited condition. It might be from your mother’s side or your father’s side or both.  If you have the doubt that you’re losing too much hair in the shower, look to your parents and grandparents to see whether they have signs of hair loss. If they have hair loss, then you need to pay extra attention to your hair. However, no need to worry because there are many options that can amend this, surgical and non-surgical.

Firstly, let’s see how hair loss starts and what the 7 stages of male pattern hair loss are. The hair loss scale was firstly invented by a man called Hamilton in the 1950s and this was then further developed in the 1970s by another person called Norwood. So nowadays, people call this hair loss scale the Norwood scale.

Stage 1

You have normal healthy hair.

Stage 2

You will notice a slight recession in the temple area.

Stage 3

In stage 3, the hairline at the temples starts to go back even further and create a U shape. For some, there might also be a bald spot in the crown area.

Stage 4

In stage 4, the recession of the hairline is advanced and the bald spot at the crown is expanding.

Stage 5

In stage 5, the receding is even more severe and there is nearly no hair in the crown area.

Stage 6

In Stage 6, the hair loss is advanced and the remaining hair on top is thinner. The bald areas meet, creating a horseshoe shape of hair loss.

Stage 7

Stage 7 is the final stage of the Norwood scale. At this stage, the hair is extremely thin and fine on the top of your head. However, you still have healthy hair in the sides and above the neck.

So, those are the 7 stages of male pattern baldness. If you’re experiencing hair loss, don’t worry. You are not alone. A lot of hair loss solutions are available on the market including hair transplants, non-surgical hair systems and more.

If you don’t have the money for surgery or want to avoid the painful process of a hair transplant, give a hair system a try. You will be amazed by how good it looks.
